Microsoft MAI-Code-1-Flash is a 5B-parameter coding foundation model, Microsoft's first built entirely without OpenAI technology, announced at Build 2026 (June 2, 2026). It outperforms Claude Haiku 4.5 on four core coding benchmarks (51.2% vs 35.2% on SWE-Bench Pro) and solves harder tasks with up to 60% fewer tokens on SWE-Bench Verified, rolling out in GitHub Copilot.
