Apple Foundation Models (AFM) are Apple's privacy-first AI models, including on-device (~3B parameter) and server-based variants that power Apple Intelligence with offline capability. At WWDC 2026 (June 8), the third-generation lineup—AFM Core and AFM Core Advanced on-device, plus AFM Cloud and AFM Cloud Pro on Private Cloud Compute—will drive the revamped Siri, trained via distillation from a custom Google Gemini foundation (under a ~$1B/yr deal) without shipping Google code, while iOS 27's "Extensions" framework allows ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini to act as third-party AI alongside Siri.
